Lenosky’s energy and the phonon dispersion of graphene

چکیده
We calculate the phonon spectrum for a graphene sheet resulting from the model proposed by Lenosky et al. Nature London 355, 333 1992 for the free energy of the lattice. This model takes into account not only the usual bond-bending and stretching terms, but it also captures the possible misalignment of the pz orbitals. We compare our results with previous models used in the literature and with available experimental data. We show that while this model provides an excellent description of the flexural modes in graphene, an extra term in the energy is needed for it to be able to reproduce the full phonon dispersion correctly beyond the point.

Phonon dynamics of graphene on metals.
The study of surface phonon dispersion curves is motivated by the quest for a detailed understanding of the forces between the atoms at the surface and in the bulk. In the case of graphene, additional motivation comes from the fact that thermal conductivity is dominated by contributions from acoustic phonons, while optical phonon properties are essential to understand Raman spectra. In this art...

We develop a theory for the renormalization of the phonon energy dispersion in graphene due to the combined effects of both Coulomb and electron-phonon (e-ph) interactions. We obtain the renormalized phonon energy spectrum by an exact analytic derivation of the phonon self-energy, finding three distinct Kohn anomalies (KAs) at the phonon wave vector q=omega/v, 2k_{F}+/-omega/v for LO phonons an...

This paper shows a theoretical study of the thermal properties of armchair grapehen nanoribbons in the presence of extended vacancies. Each graphene nanoribbons formed by superlattices with a periodic geometric structure, different size and symmetry of vacancies. The phonon dispersion, specific heat and thermal conductivity properties are described by a force-constant model and also by Landauer...
متن کاملMoS2 nanoresonators: intrinsically better than graphene?
We perform classical molecular dynamics simulations to examine the intrinsic energy dissipation in single-layer MoS2 nanoresonators, where the point of emphasis is to compare their dissipation characteristics with those of single-layer graphene. Our key finding is that MoS2 nanoresonators exhibit significantly lower energy dissipation, and thus higher quality (Q)-factors by at least a factor of...
متن کاملA Machine Learning Potential for Graphene
We present an accurate interatomic potential for graphene, constructed using the Gaussian Approximation Potential (GAP) machine learning methodology. This GAP model obtains a faithful representation of a density functional theory (DFT) potential energy surface, facilitating highly accurate (approaching the accuracy of ab initio methods) molecular dynamics simulations. This is achieved at a comp...
